Our lives are filled with multiple aspects of chaos. We can either succumb to these emotional upheavals or change our focus.
What brings you happiness? Give yourself permission to engage in activities that make your heart sing.
Walk outside and take a few deep, cleansing breaths. Look up to the sun and mindfully absorb her vibrant rays of health beaming through your body. Keep breathing slowly as you gaze and look around. Focus your eyes on something you LOVE and then spend a few moments integrating this feeling of peace.
Turn off the news. Rarely do we hear happy events. Chaos is newsworthy, yet it is not healthy for us to be constantly bombarded with trauma. I update myself each morning by quickly reading the news and then switching to something fun. I don’t want to dwell on chaos.
Is it time to find a new hobby? What activity brings you joy? Can you revitalize an old interest or start a new one?
How about taking a class, either in-person or online? Allow your mind to expand while engaging your heart with something you love. The community that forms when like-minded souls are involved in purposeful and pleasurable activities is healing.
Bring flowers into your life! Watch their buds blossom and expand throughout the day. Their constant change brings beauty, peace, and JOY into our lives. When you buy groceries, consider spending a few dollars on flowers, too. Allow their fragrance to soar through your soul.
The positive energy of PEACE will expand exponentially. Your happiness will be felt internally and externally. Let peace emanate within you as you mindfully journey throughout your day. |

COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH APPROACHES
are NOW RECOMMENDED
for ALL Occupational Therapy Educational Programs!
The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Educators (ACOTE) has just published their new 2023 revised educational standards.
A 25-year goal of mine has now been achieved with ACOTE’s inclusion of complementary health and integrative health as a practice example for interventions to support well-being. This holistic approach includes both physical and mental health well-being for all those treated by Occupational Therapy practitioners.
Effective July 31, 2025, all OT educational programs at all levels must include interventions and procedures to support well-being; complementary health and integrative health is the ONLY example provided!
Here is the link for the NEW Revised 2023 ACOTE Standards and Interpretive Guide (download) section B.3.6, on page 28.
And, here is the link for the outstanding Complementary Health Approaches and Integrative Health in Occupational Therapy (2023) Position Statement approved by the AOTA Representative Assembly. This marvelous document was written by Dr. Michelle Bradshaw, DC, OTR/L, and includes 4 excellent case studies that facilitate the use of complementary health and integrative health approaches within the OT field.
Occupational Therapy has been able to include complementary health approaches as part of our occupation-based service since 2005, as long as people are trained in their provided modalities. YAY for OT leading the way in providing healthy well-being activities! |

I am delighted to teach one-day Reiki trainings at the upcoming American Occupational Therapy Association Annual Conference again, for the 8th year in a row, at all the AOTA in-person Annual Conferences since 2015!
Come receive Reiki’s unconditional LOVE, learn self-Reiki, and experience providing and receiving Reiki one-on-one with multiple partners. Bask in numerous sound healing activities while absorbing the history, philosophy, and research supporting this complementary health approach used by millions!
Reiki Level I certificate-provided training is being offered as a Pre-Conference Institute in Orlando, FL, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 12-6:30 pm.
Reiki Level II, intermediate level certificate-provided training is held on the first day of the AOTA Conference, on Thursday, March 21, from 8:00-11:00 am and 2:45-5:45 pm. This two-workshop format requires attendance at both workshops and receipt of a Reiki Level I certificate from any Reiki Master.

A great friend of mine, Dr. Michael Pizzi, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA, is running for AOTA President-Elect!
